About Mary
Mary and her husband Erik were both working at IBM Microelectronics in Burlington, VT when they were blessed with a baby boy. Soon after, Erik took a job in Mesa, AZ and Mary left supply chain to go home and be a full-time mom. Like many families they worried about the rising cost of college education and when their son went into 1st grade, Mary needed to go back to work. But what could she possibly do that allowed her to pick up her son from school as well as continue to care for her mother-in-law who suffers from Alzheimer’s?
Erik was the one who came up with the answer, buy gold. Not like the typical pawn shop or gold buyer, buy gold in a safe, office environment by appointment only. This way not only would Mary be safe, but it would be flexible enough to accommodate her duties as a caregiver. She often refers to Valley Goldmine as her “mommy gig” and says that it was her “gold-bug” husband who got her into the industry.
It started out small and Mary learned the jewelry market as well as the precious metals market. Wanting her clients to get the most money for their jewelry, she would refer them to local jewelers if she thought they could get more that way. Sometimes they did and other times they returned to sell to Mary as the “melt price” she was offering was higher. Over time she learned what was in style and was able to better direct her clients to help them get the best price possible.
Now their son is in high-school and Mary continues to look out for her customers. Since so many people came to her with coins they had inherited, she found honest coin dealers who would pay well for collectible numismatic coins even if it is obvious that the seller doesn’t know what they have. Her motto, “If you do your best to help people, the rest will take care of itself.” is a testament to her success.
About Logan
Logan was in kindergarten when his parents purchased the Valley Goldmine franchise for his mother to run. In the early days he would accompany her to some appointments, helping keep his grandmother busy watching shows on the iPad. (suffering from Alzheimer's, grandma was under Mary's care as well) Now, 10 years later, he is a junior at Chandler high and actively helping the family business as the IT guy.
He helps mom with inputting data for the required police reports, website and google page posts, and has tried his hand at creating a separate Valley Goldmine website. Logan aspires to study computer science, and the tuition is one of the main reasons his parents invested in Valley Goldmine.
